Current position:Professor of State Key Laboratory of Soil Erosion and Dryland Farming on the Loess Plateau, Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, Northwest A&F University, & Chinese Academy of Sciences
Research interests:
Ecosystem ecology;
Plant eco-physiology;
Biogeochemistry;
Global change biology;
and other research topics related to disturbances that have the potential to alter important ecosystem properties
The focus of my research is grassland ecology, especially the effects of natural and anthropogenic disturbances on steppe plants and soils. Forest ecology is also one of my major research interests. My general research interests are on biological diversity, ecosystem functioning and nutrient dynamics, with emphasis on ecological processes in plants and soils after disturbances such as grazing, wildfire and clearcutting etc. Much of my research is directed at understanding the biological and physical factors controlling these processes, and the relationships of litter/soil/plant interactions to overall ecosystem functions. I have conducted both laboratory studies and field-based research aimed at understanding the patterns and controls of organic matter and nutrient dynamics in a variety of ecosystems, including grasslands in China and boreal forests in Canada. In particular, I am interested in terrestrial ecosystem processes at large spatial and long temporal scales in various ways, including evaluating published literature and collaborating with researchers from differing universities/countries. In my research lab, I prefer to work with others rather than rely on my own skills and abilities. I strive to contribute to supporting environmental and socially sustainable decision-making for natural and managed ecosystems in a changing environment. I am looking to recruit graduates with a broad range of experience, especially with a strong desire to grow and become experts in their fields of academic study in the future.
